Media Center

Welcome to the Workman Media Center section of the Workman website! On this page you will find basic information and procedures about our Media Center.

Ms. Johnston is the Workman media specialist and can be reached at Julie.Johnston@pccsk12.com

Each week, your child will have a Media special for 50 minutes. It is the goal of the Media Center program to help all students become critical thinkers, problem solvers, digital citizens, and to have a love for books that will last a lifetime! Throughout the curriculum students will practice library and research skills, learn how to be a digital citizen, will read and discuss diverse books, participate in the engineering design process and learn coding basics. Part of the media program is checking out library books and below are the procedures to know for checking out books.

Library Checkout Procedures

  • Students will have the opportunity to check out library books every week during their media special.

  • Students will be able to check out their book(s) during class time and books are due back each week on their library day. Students can keep a book for 7 days. If a student wishes to keep a book longer, they must bring the book to the library to renew the book during their media special.

  • Students must return their books to check out new books each week during media. Kindergarten and Young 5 students can check out one book per week. First through Fifth grade students can check out two books per week

  • Each month, we send home a notice of books your child has currently checked out. This notice is simply for information to help our families stay aware of the books a child has checked out. This notice is never to assess a fine.  If a book is lost or damaged you will receive a note for a fine. Fines are only assessed when it is determined a book cannot be found or is damaged. There are no fines for late books! If a fine is assessed and then the book is returned to the library, there will be a refund issued to you.

  • Students can always return books anytime to school and will be able to check out new books at a time that is designated by their classroom teacher and the media specialist during school hours.

Our entire catalog of books can be viewed here: Workman Elementary Online Catalog; feel free to browse with your student prior to their library class to help them find a book that may be perfect for them!
